Longtime supporters of education in the community, Vanquish Worldwide and its President and CEO Dr. Eric W. Barton are proud to continue support of the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation as Semper Fidelis donors and their longstanding scholarship endowment created in the company’s namesake.
The Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation is a privately funded, 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that provides academic scholarships to children of United States Marines and Navy Corpsmen. With education being a passion of retired U.S. Marine Dr. Eric W. Barton, the foundation was a natural fit for the organization.
To date, The Vanquish Worldwide Scholarship, a permanent restricted endowment set up in 2013, has provided tuition support to four deserving children of Marines.
Last year’s Vanquish Worldwide Scholarship recipient, Sean Troutman, attended San Diego State University and took engineering courses as he worked towards his degree.
“Thank you so much for giving me this scholarship opportunity. I am so very proud of my father’s service in the Marine Corps, and to me this is such an honor,” Troutman said in a letter addressed to Barton. “I know how hard all of the Marines work to serve our country, and to benefit from their services by receiving this scholarship makes me proud.”
This year’s scholarship recipient, Obed Meyers, son of veteran Sergeant Ronald Meyers USMC, is pursuing a degree in Industrial Engineering.
“Your gift arrived exactly when I needed it most. I received the award notification just as I was wondering how I would pay for my last year of college,” Meyers said of receiving the Vanquish Worldwide Scholarship. “Your support is a huge encouragement in my academic journey, and I thank you so much. Because of your generosity, I am well on my way to achieving my goal of becoming an industrial engineer.”
Education has always remained close to Barton, a retired U.S. Marine Corps Captain, who received his doctorate degree in business administration with a specialization in leadership from Walden University in 2016.
“I have been very blessed in my businesses, and as a small token of gratitude, I am humbled to help fund scholarships for these four deserving students through the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation,” Barton said. “This amazing foundation is a wonderful way to honor our nation’s Marines – through helping their children achieve their academic dreams. I look forward to seeing how the Vanquish Worldwide Scholarship will help many other children in the future.”
Over the past several years, Barton and Vanquish staff have supported the foundation not only through monetary donations but also encouragement and support by attending the United States Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation Gala, MCSF American Patriots Campaign Leadership Summit and other events.
Vanquish will continue supporting the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation through monetary and emotional support.
Founded in 1962, the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation is the nation’s oldest and longest provider of need-based scholarship to military children with nearly 40,000 scholarships awarded, worth almost $120 million.
