The Kaskaskia College Foundation is pleased to announce the endowment of the Barton—Gambetta Scholarship for a deserving student beginning in the Fall 2016 semester.
According to Eric W. Barton: “This endowed scholarship has been established by my family in honor of our dear mentor, friend and life-long educator, Mr. James R. Gambetta. Jim cared deeply about extending education to as many people as possible and considered it an honor to serve, during his 31 year career, as a faculty member of both the Odin and Sandoval Schools.”
Upon graduation at Sandoval High School, Eric W. Barton went on to serve in the United States Marine Corps as both an enlisted Marine and an officer. He later began his work as an entrepreneur establishing several successful businesses, one of which being a technical college, Peak Technical Institute.
James R. Gambetta and Eric W. Barton, both being advocates of higher education, are pleased to assist students in achieving their educational goals. “As a student’s critical thinking and cognitive skills improve through education, the surrounding communities’ economy becomes more productive. Education is the driver of economic success in our nation. It is for this reason we must work together to educate the generations to come,” Barton said. This scholarship will continue the tradition of the Barton family providing educational opportunities to deserving students.
